Are your IT systems running smoothly today? System administrators work tirelessly behind the scenes to prevent computer problems ruining your day. Take time today to show them your appreciation.
If Admins aren’t troubleshooting a computer crash, cleaning out a virus, or repairing coffee-damaged keyboards, they’re likely upgrading your PC’s hardware, maintaining servers, or providing training.
Despite these high pressure tasks and constantly dealing with us at our most stressed, SysAdmins go about their work with quiet composure and never-ending patience.
Office life as we know it would be almost impossible without the dedication and expertise of admins, which is why we should all do our best to show them our gratitude.
Say ‘Thank You’ this SysAdmin Day
Do your admins know exactly how much you appreciate them? Or could you do a little more?
Friday, July 31, 2015 is world System Administrator Appreciation Day. Take the opportunity to thank your admins in a way they’ll appreciate.
Unsure of where to start? Here’s some advice from our very own Admins:
Feel free to drop by to say ‘Thank you for keeping my IT systems running.’ You don’t have to wait for something to go wrong before saying ‘Hi’.
– Marc
A little more patience. We’re kept very busy, so we’re not always able to respond or provide solutions immediately.
– Stefan
I’ve got a sweet tooth, so you could show me appreciation by giving me lots of candy, pastries, or cakes – even better if they are related to IT!
– Alex
It would be great if people included more emoticons in their emails. It makes communications a bit easier and friendlier.
– Achim
“Just for today, please take the time to go into very detailed descriptions of the problems you are facing, or the error messages you are seeing on your screen.”
– Patrick
How to show appreciation all year round
Now you’ve got an idea for how to show your appreciation this SysAdmin Day. What about the other 364 days of the year?
A lot of the time, admins are forced to work reactively. Problems crop up on our IT systems. We get in touch with them, and they react by taking action to resolve the problem.
Now what if your admins could intercept problems before they become large enough to affect you, and take action according to their own schedule? What if your admins could prevent issues before you as a user would even notice them?
If you’re in the position to do so, give your admins the ability to monitor your devices proactively, view all of your deployed devices within a few seconds, and protect all your devices from viruses in order to make your and their lives that much easier year round.
Don’t waste time on things your Admins won’t appreciate
There are many ways to show your admins that you recognize and appreciate their hard work all year round.
It doesn’t take a lot to show your appreciation. There are also many things you might want to avoid.
Watch the video below to find out why some forms of appreciation might not go down as well as you’d hope.
