Q. What does it mean to be AI-ready?

 

Mei Dent: Curiosity is key. Technology is changing so quickly that individuals and companies alike need to be willing to experiment, learn and adapt. The organizations that will succeed are the ones that create an environment where people are not afraid to try new things and learn from failure.

Q. What is the biggest challenge for technology leaders right now?

 

Mei Dent: I think the hard part is that many of us have to unlearn what we've learned over the last 30 years. As an industry, we've developed ways of working around software development, testing, deployment and delivery. Now we're entering a world where AI becomes an integral part of how work gets done. We're moving toward AI-assisted and AI-native ways of working. We're not fully there yet, but that's the transformation taking place right now. It's one of the most exciting moments I've experienced in my career. 

Q. What does this mean for developers?

 

Mei Dent: We absolutely still need new developers. What's changing is the nature of the job. Developers are increasingly becoming architects and orchestrators who guide systems, workflows and outcomes. AI can help generate code, but human creativity, judgment and problem-solving remain essential. Many young professionals approach AI and new technologies without the muscle memory of previous ways of working. They are naturally curious and willing to experiment, which can be a real advantage in this environment.

Q. What advice would you give to teams exploring AI?

 

Mei Dent: When evaluating AI, don't just ask whether the technology works. Ask whether it creates value. Look at workflows end-to-end and think holistically. The goal isn't to optimize a single step. The goal is to improve the outcome.

 

Q. Do you have one piece of advice for developers and technology leaders navigating the AI era?

 

Mei Dent: Don't be afraid of failing. Just go out, try it out and be curious.
