Greek Prime Minister to visit TeamViewer Research and Development Hub in Ioannina

As part of a larger tour in Greece’s new tech cluster Ioannina, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis today visited TeamViewer’s Research and Development Hub in the capital of Epirus.

Goppingen / Ioannina, June 18, 2021 – TeamViewer CEO Oliver Steil, CTO Mike Eissele as well as Philipp Deutscher, VP Engineering and leading the Greek team, welcomed the Prime Minister at the hub to discuss its relevance for TeamViewers’ innovation pipeline and global software development organization and to show him how quickly and well the site has developed since its official opening in January 2020.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis: “TeamViewer’s decision to invest in Greece as a key R&D hub strongly validates our ongoing investments in Greece’s digital transformation. We are quickly becoming a focal point for some of the world’s leading technology and software companies and the work being carried out at this facility is cutting edge. Today I’ve been able to meet some of the exceptional software engineers working at the site. They are both local graduates who are now fulfilling their potential here in Greece, and talented engineers who have chosen to come and work here from abroad because of the opportunities Greece now offers them. Ioannina is on a journey to becoming a key pillar of our modern economy as we continue to build back better.”

TeamViewer’s CEO Oliver Steil: “TeamViewer has developed into a truly global tech player over the past years – focusing on solutions to digitalize the entire value chain of customers across various industries. That said, we are competing for the smartest talents in software engineering worldwide. The region around Ioannina is home to several technology companies and many well-educated university graduates in the field of computer science and software development. This makes the city a very attractive place for us. We are very happy with the development of our Ioannina site and look forward to further growing it in the future.”

Since its foundation in early 2020 the number of software engineers at TeamViewer’s Ioannina location has increased to almost 50. The R&D hub plays a pivotal role towards reinforcing more innovation across TeamViewer’s product portfolio. Therefore, the company is pursuing a long-term plan for the site. TeamViewer will continue to attract promising talents and create successful career paths for them within its organization. Currently, TeamViewer plans to expand the workforce up to 150 – 200 engineers over the next years.
