TeamViewer acquires 3D visualization and Mixed Reality innovator Viscopic

Goppingen, Germany, May 11th, 2021TeamViewer, a leading global provider of secure remote connectivity solutions and workplace digitalization technology, today announced the acquisition of Viscopic to expand TeamViewer’s leading enterprise AR portfolio with pioneering solutions for interactive 3D visualization and Mixed reality (MR) workflow digitalization. Customers of the Munich-based startup including blue-chip companies Audi, Siemens Energy, and Deutsche Bahn use Viscopic’s highly innovative technologies for production, maintenance, quality assurance, and training purposes.

Viscopic’s software runs on Mixed Reality smart glasses like Microsoft HoloLens as well as smartphones and tablets to assist frontline workers. Digital information like 3D pointers or step-by-step instructions can be pinned to real-world objects, and true-to-scale holograms placed into production environments. Viscopic’s intuitive 3D processing and authoring product enables the user to create Mixed Reality content without expert coding knowledge as well as the creation of 3D holograms based on CAD or similar data.

TeamViewer’s CPO Hendrik Witt said: “We are excited to welcome the entire Viscopic team to the TeamViewer family. They are proven specialists in their technology field and a great extension to our existing enterprise AR suite. After TeamViewer’s acquisitions of wearable computing leaders Ubimax and Upskill within the last year, Viscopic’s 3D visualization capabilities enable additional use cases for example in manufacturing and quality assurance processes in the automotive sector or heavy industry. With 3D elements we can offer improved workflows and Mixed Reality experiences on the customer’s side, especially when complex situations require more visual support.”

Viscopic’s co-founder Marco Maier adds: “We are happy and proud to join such a great company as TeamViewer that has developed into a truly global tech brand enabling digitalization along the entire value-chain of businesses in all verticals. We see enormous potential for our powerful 3D processing and mixed reality authoring technology to be implemented in TeamViewer’s industrial enterprise offering – creating additional value for TeamViewer’s and Viscopic’s customers. With TeamViewer’s global sales and marketing power we can take the use of our software to the next level.”

Viscopic’s 3D AR product suite will be integrated into TeamViewer Frontline, an AR-based solution suite used to digitalize work processes and empower frontline workers on the shopfloor. TeamViewer Frontline provides AR and MR workflows, as well as remote assistance capabilities along the entire value chain. Main use cases include assembly, inspection, maintenance, remote assistance, and picking for logistics.
