Here, we will see how to use Frontline Spatial Editor to add content to a workflow.
Components
Components are modular building blocks that provide specific behavior within the Frontline experience. Each component is a self-contained capability, such as capturing input, displaying information, or triggering actions that you can arrange in sequence to create complete workflows.
To add components:
- Click on Create in the Connector view.
- Choose Step.
- Click on the Plus icon to view Component options:
Timer
Defines the output behavior from a step that will be executed after a specific time has passed. For example, for 10 seconds, as shown below.
Quiz
Defines the True or False output behavior for the question configured in the navigation pane. To test a worker's skills on a machine, for example, the user can place quiz components in the model that contain single-answer or multiple-choice questions. The quiz component can be repositioned using the transformation gizmos or by using the transform menu on the right. Using the right panel options of the quiz component, the user can:
- Define the quiz component’s name (only relevant inside the editor)
- Transform the position and rotation of the quiz component
- Define a question
- Define whether it is a single-answer or multiple-choice question
- Add the answer(s)
- Define if this question is offered for self-study
- If it is offered for self-study, define how many attempts the user has to answer the question
- Decide on the feedback the user receives when answering the question
The Quiz component name serves to identify it inside Spatial Editor. However, in the Spatial Workplace, only the question will be displayed.
Single-answer and multiple-choice questions:
This setting defines how many correct answers must be selected before the question is considered answered correctly. If a single is selected, the user needs to choose only one correct answer, even if the question has more than one correct answer. If multiple is selected, the user must select all correct answers for the response to be considered correct. Once the correct answer or answers have been selected, the user receives positive feedback - if defined for this question - and the True connection of the quiz is activated, which leads to the corresponding next step being displayed. Connections that come out of a quiz component are already of the Binary and True type by default.
Feedback:
It is possible to give immediate feedback to the user about whether the question was answered correctly or incorrectly. Tick the checkboxes for positive/negative feedback and enter the respective feedback message to be shown. Positive feedback will be displayed when the correct answer(s) have been selected. Negative feedback will be displayed when the user answers incorrectly. The maximum number of attempts to answer a question incorrectly before negative feedback appears depends on the question's setting.
It's important to note that without feedback, the user will not know whether they answered the question correctly or not.
Instruction
This component functions like a pin where it is possible to add names, media files, shapes, and lines under its Content tab:
Menu
This component can have multiple connections leading to different steps. It allows the user to return to this step after moving on in the workflow. By adding a Menu component and connecting it to different parts of the workflow, you can easily navigate the workflow. You can add and choose between the options within the menu and move to a particular part of the workflow.
Space Preference
Space preferences include Markers, Object Trackers, and Model Placements types, where users can choose to add them after clicking on Assign Tracker within the navigation pane. It is possible to add multiple trackers of the same type. It is important to note that only one type of tracker can be added.
Barcode
This component allows scanning inside the steps. There can be only one barcode-scanning component per step, with no other instruction, quiz, or menu component.
Step State
A step state change can only be active while that specific step is active. When the users leave that step and move to the next one, everything that the Step State has changed is automatically reverted. A step state can be used with containers to animate certain targets and leave the rest of the model. It is possible to modify one container’s targets or all containers together, and to add the part itself once as a target. With this, the animation will only appear during that step. Then, you can add multiple instances of that part across different target containers.
Workflow State
Defines the next target’s behavior and persists across subsequent steps unless it is reverted. Each target part can only be part of one single target container.
Adding images, videos and PDFs
Multimedia content can be added with the + Add button under Media Files. For example, the picture of the timing belt instruction component shows the belt's correct placement.
Supported formats:
- Images: PNG, JPG, JPEG, and TIF/TIFF
- Videos: MP4, AVI, MOV, MPEG, GIF, FLV, OGG, and WMV
- Audio: WAV
Note: PDFs are supported only in the iOS and Android versions of Spatial Workplace.
It is important to note that users can use only one component (Quiz, Instruction, Menu, or Barcode) at a time. When the second type is tried to be added, the others will be disabled.
