TeamViewer extends multiplatform solution to Linux®

Linux joins Windows®, Mac® and iPhone® platforms in accessing remote desktops 24/7 with TeamViewer

Goeppingen, Germany, April, 15th 2010 – TeamViewer GmbH, a leading provider of solutions for online communication and collaboration, expands its multiplatform solution to Linux operating systems. Already recognized in the Windows and Mac communities as a premium cross-platform solution, and recently launched as a popular iPhone application, TeamViewer desktop sharing software for remote support, presentation and file transfer is now available for Linux.

As a leading operating system within the IT community, Linux is selected by IT professionals around the world. These IT professionals are frequently called upon to support clients and customers who work primarily with Windows or Mac operating systems. Thanks to the new TeamViewer multiplatform capabilities, Linux, Windows and Mac users are able to connect, broadening the opportunity for online collaboration, teamwork, and IT support.

Available at www.teamviewer.com, and free for non-commercial use, TeamViewer can be downloaded in about a minute. Launching TeamViewer generates a unique user ID code and dynamic password which can be shared with the connection partner via phone or email. Entering this code and password establishes an immediate connection to the corresponding computer. Partner lists, which store the connection information of trusted collaborators, are also available with a free TeamViewer account.

Thanks to enhanced compression, the TeamViewer connection is fast and easy to work with, improving the experience for both supporters and clients. Equally as important, TeamViewer does not require port-forwarding, a static IP addresses or router configuration, making connection both user-friendly and secure. Firewalls can remain in place during the entire TeamViewer session, protecting computers and ensuring the connection is smooth for all parties.

The all-in-one TeamViewer for Linux solution offers three connection options. The remote support mode allows IT professionals to take over a distant computer for troubleshooting, problem solving and teamwork. Perfect for sales service, training or webinars, TeamViewer also offers a presentation mode. File transfer, the third connection option, enables the fast and straightforward transfer of information from one computer to the other, regardless of where the two computers are located.

TeamViewer for Linux also includes advanced features, such as VoIP and instant chat, allowing partners to talk to one another and share information immediately, while working together through the TeamViewer connection.

“We are thrilled to extend our reach to the Linux operating system,” says Holger Felgner, Product Manager of TeamViewer GmbH. “Online support has become an indispensible tool for IT professionals servicing systems at a distance. Making our software compatible with Linux will increase the reach of IT professionals and diversify the support they are able to offer,” finishes Felgner.

In line with all TeamViewer solutions, TeamViewer respects the highest standards, including black and white lists and AES 256 bit session encoding.

Free for non-commercial use, business licenses can be purchased in a variety of options at www.teamviewer.com.
